Turkey was one of 108 dogs that came into Bark Nation from the largest suspect dogfighting raid in Michigan history. Back on November 16, 2021, our team met an old, blind dog chained up in the backyard. This dog (now known as Turkey or Turkey Jerky Snack or The King!) greeted our team with lil sniffs and tail wags and despite the horrible start to life he was given, he was sweet and trusting and inherently good.
Turkey was afraid of EVERYTHING when we met him. Could you imagine the fear he had to have felt every day, out on his chain, being force bred and conditioned, all while not being able to see a thing? We didn’t blame him for not wanting to come out of his kennel.
Our team worked daily to help Turkey feel more comfortable. We started carrying him into our play areas and helping him discover toys and one of our volunteers even brought in a wagon to help our Jerky Snack move around the shelter easier.
Turkey is now living out his best life in his forever home with four-legged siblings! His new mom takes things slow and is teaching him daily how to trust again.
