SHIFT TECHNICIAN

Bark Nation is seeking reliable, committed people to join our team. Shift Technicians will be responsible for the feeding, medicating, cleaning, and enrichment for dogs in the care of our (state licensed) animal shelter during daily care shifts. This is a contractual, part time position (approximately 10 hours/week) starting at $11/hour. Hours will operate around our daily care shifts (6-11 am on weekdays, 7-12 pm on weekends).

Based in metro Detroit, MI

Responsibilities:

  • Follows direction from Shelter Manager, and all written shelter protocols and procedures for daily operations

  • Provides support for daily care shifts and volunteers by operating on a consistent schedule

  • Stays up to date on status of all dogs in shelter (including behavior, medical, special needs)

  • Cleans and disinfects kennels, rooms, and other areas of the facility in accordance with policies and operating procedures

  • Checks supply inventory and communicates with Shelter Manager regarding needed equipment and/or supplies

  • Completes assigned tasks as needed (enrichment prep, laundry, dishes, deep cleans, additional projects)

  • Observes and communicates animals medical and behavioral concerns with Shelter Manager

  • Reports any signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to Shelter Manager

  • Prepares and distributes food, in accordance with chart and special diets, to all animals in care when scheduled

  • Distributes medications to all animals in care when scheduled

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in an animal care setting (shelter, training/boarding facility, veterinary clinic, etc.)

  • Demonstrates ability to be a team player, follow written and verbal instructions, multi-task, and conduct all work professionally

  • Ability to safely lift, and carry, up to 60 pounds

  • Ability to frequently work in an environment where standing/bending/kneeling is required

  • Knowledge of basic dog handling and signs of stress
