Shelter Enrichment

We LOVE the shelter system! Surprise you? Well, we challenge you to look at the shelter system in a different light. No, not all shelters are well funded, or have administration in place to ensure the welfare of the animals they house. BUT, for millions of homeless dogs around the country, sometimes a shelter is the BEST place for a dog to find their new home. Think about it – where else can a well-balanced dog be that visible to potential adopters? Many shelters are adopting Shelter Enrichment programs, including enhanced cleaning protocols, bedding, physical stimulation, mental stimulation, training, olfactory enrichment, and more! We LOVE being a part of this process with shelters, and ensuring they have the supplies and training they need to succeed at keeping the dogs they house happy, healthy and enriched.

In the coming months, we will be launching a more intensive behavior and training program at a partner shelter utilizing APDT’s Canine Life and Social Skills (C.L.A.S.S.) program – please stay tuned!

PAST ENRICHMENT INITIATIVES

[2015] 200 Nylabone Giveaway

10168085_882099828499223_8206329626968370913_nThanks to an EXTREMELY generous donation from our friends at Nylabone, we had the amazing opportunity to provide life-saving enrichment supplies to 200 dogs that need them the most.

In January 2015, 100 chained/backyard dogs in Detroit received a Dura-Chew Nylabone to help them stay mentally enriched and stimulated while passing their time outdoors. Thank you C.H.A.I.N.E.D., Inc. for allowing us to participate in your beautifully organized January ‘Freezin’ for a Reason’, and provide Nylabones for the dogs in your program!

In March 2015, 100 shelter dogs at Macomb County Animal Control received peanut butter slathered Nylabones to keep them happy and busy in their kennels! The best part is, 100 Nylabones can easily provide enrichment for hundreds of dogs in a shelter setting, as they can be sanitized and last a very long time. Thank you Macomb County Animal Control for allowing us to spend the morning with your amazing dogs (and staff) – we’re sure this experience brought us as much joy as it did the dogs!

Thank you Nylabone, C.H.A.I.N.E.D., Inc. and Macomb County Animal Control!

Through generous donations from our Amazon Wishlist, suppliers, retailers and more, we were able to provide the following:
– 35 Kongs and 75 meals to the dogs at Macomb County Animal Control (and sausages!)
– 8 cases of wet food, 45 pouches of wet puppy food, 45 bags of dry puppy food to the 24-7 backyard dogs in C.H.A.I.N.E.D. Inc’s outreach program.
– 500 ‘gift bags’ to Michigan Humane Society’s community outreach dogs, including a can of food, sample pack of dry food, Pedigree DentaStix and FREE spay/neuter voucher.

Thank you to Pedigree for 600 DentaStix, Pet Supplies Plus of Novi and Royal Oak for over 700 food samples, and all who donated to this feel-good initiative, and to Macomb County Animal Control, C.H.A.I.N.E.D., Inc., and Michigan Humane Society for partnering with us!
